Key Characteristics and Biology
- Size & Appearance: Growing to 25-35 cm, this species is the largest in Australia. They have a slender head, long snout, and a body covered in small, often dark spots.
- Habitat: Found in shallow seagrass, mangroves, and deep sponges, ranging from bays to rocky reefs, up to 12m or more.
- Behavior: They are diurnal to nocturnal feeders, utilizing a prehensile tail to anchor themselves in strong currents.
- Reproduction: Like other seahorses, males are responsible for incubating eggs in a specialized brood pouch, producing large broods, sometimes over 400 eggs.

Aquarium Care Requirements
- Temperatures: As a temperate species, they require cooler water, preferably below , as higher temperatures can cause stress.
